Norwegian MP calls for end to PA funding following PMW report
In July 2008, PMW director Itamar Marcus’ meetings with the Norwegian media and with Norwegian MPs, including Tybring-Gjedde of the leading opposition Progress Party, have led to a vocal debate over the Norwegian funding of the Palestinian Authority.
Following Mr. Marcus’ two-day visit to Oslo, Norwegian national TV news opened its nightly news with a four-minute report describing PMW findings and showing PMW videos, as well as interviews with Itamar Marcus and with a leading MP of the Progress Party. On camera, MP Tybring-Gjedde demanded cessation of all funding of the PA: “It really makes you nauseous. You feel like crying, when you hear this kind of hate message … I think that Norway should immediately freeze all aid to the Palestinian areas, and then check where every Krone is going.”
Following the wide attention, PMW director Itamar Marcus has been invited by MP Tybring-Gjedde to appear before all 38 Progress Party parliamentarians and their advisers on October 22, 2008. It should be noted that the Progress Party is leading in recent polls and elections are in 2009.
