DFLP Secretary-General: "The American government did not want to solve the Syrian crisis through peaceful means”
Headline: “Hawatmeh: The American government did not want to solve the Syrian crisis through peaceful means”
“Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) Secretary-General Nayef Hawatmeh revealed that the American government, and with it several states in the Middle East region, did not want to solve the eroding Syrian crisis through peaceful means, but rather [wanted] to extend it by another two years, during which they would prepare and train Syrian forces on the ground until the situation in Syria would become similar to that in Iraq.
Hawatmeh told a reporter of the Asharq Al-Awsat news agency in Amman that the forces that were trained on the ground included uprooted and refugee Syrians, and with them American advisors, special forces, and non-Arab forces. This was when he referred to the first American experience, during which they trained Syrian forces and deployed them in Syria after they were trained in several countries in the Middle East.
He added: ‘The American government, which established a coalition comprised of 63 countries, prepared itself to train the proposed forces in 2016 and 2017, and pressed Arab and Sunni Muslim countries to deploy ground forces to Syria so as to fight political, armed, and blood-soaked Islam (i.e., the Islamist rebel forces) under the title of a war against ISIS, Jabhat Al-Nusra, and their allies.’
Likewise, he said that the landing of the Russian forces on Sept. 30, 2015, on Syrian soil broke this American course [of action] and opened the door to a search for a political settlement of the Syrian crisis.”
