PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein
Sheikh Muhammad Hussein is PA Mufti and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the highest religious official in the Palestinian Authority. He was appointed by Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

At an event celebrating the anniversary of the founding of Fatah, Hussein presented the killing of Jews by Muslims as a religious Islamic goal. He cited the Hadith (Islamic tradition attributed to Muhammad) which states that the Hour of Resurrection will not come until Muslims fight the Jews and kill them:

Moderator at Fatah ceremony: "Our war with the descendants of the apes and pigs (i.e., Jews) is a war of religion and faith. Long Live Fatah!
[I invite you,] our honorable Sheikh."
PA Mufti, Muhammad Hussein: "47 years ago the [Fatah] revolution started. Which revolution? The modern revolution
of the Palestinian people’s history.
In fact, Palestine in its entirety is a revolution,
since [Caliph] Umar came [to conquer Jerusalem, 637 CE],
and continuing today, and until the End of Days.
The reliable Hadith (tradition attributed to Muhammad),
in the two reliable collections, Bukhari and Muslim, says:
'The Hour [of Resurrection] will not come until you fight the Jews.
The Jew will hide behind stones or trees.
Then the stones or trees will call:
"Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him."
Except the Gharqad tree [which will keep silent].'
Therefore it is no wonder that you see Gharqad [trees]
surrounding the [Israeli] settlements and colonies.
[Gharqad trees] surrounding, surrounding and surrounding.
That’s the Palestine we are talking about,
with the beginning of the Jihad and the continuation of the Jihad
with the struggle and the procession of the Martyrs."
[PA TV (Fatah), Jan. 9, 2012]

This is not the only time that the Mufti has incited to murder and hatred against Jews in the name of Islam. At a funeral ceremony for terrorists, the Mufti promoted terror against Israel, saying that the terrorists’ souls “tell us to follow in their path.” [PA TV (Fatah), May 31, 2012]

He has preached on numerous occasions that Islam is at war with Jews and Israel. In a sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 2010, he preached that the Jews are the "enemies of Allah." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 26, 2010] He has also repeatedly called on Palestinians to carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war) for Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as in the following example:

"The Mufti of Jerusalem and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, praised the residents' response to calls to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to maintain Ribat (religious conflict/war)... His honor [Hussein] appealed yesterday to the Ribat fighters in the Al-Aqsa plazas and emphasized that the practical response to the threats of the occupation… against the Al-Aqsa Mosque is to remain there, in large numbers…”
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 13, 2012]

The following section documents the PA Mufti’s hate speech against Israel, Israelis and Jews:

PA Mufti: Muslims have religious obligation to "liberate Palestine"

"The State of Palestine participated in the discussions of the 22nd session of the conference of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Kuwait. Palestine was represented at the meeting by the Supreme Shari'ah Judge of Palestine and President [Mahmoud Abbas'] Advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash, and the [PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories Sheikh Muhammad Hussein.
The meeting was held in the presence of Muslim scholars and delegations from over 46 countries... The Academy will discuss several political, economic, social and medical issues in the context of Islamic Shari'ah law... The [PA] Mufti headed a meeting under the headline 'Jerusalem: its virtues and visits to it' in which he stressed: 'The land of Palestine is waqf (inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law). It must not be relinquished nor must any part of it be sold... He clarified: 'It is the duty of the leaders of the [Islamic] nation and its peoples to liberate Palestine and Jerusalem, to prevent the Judaization in it, to support its residents and strengthen them - everyone according to his ability and to the extent possible."

PA religious council warns of religious war, saying Palestinians will ‎‎"not sit idly by" as Israelis "attack" holy sites
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Mar. 5, 2015
‎“The [Palestinian] Supreme Fatwa Council ‎warned of the sparking of a religious war in ‎Gaza, which would consume everything in ‎our region and several other regions of the ‎world, as a result of the increase in the rate ‎of attacks and violations [committed] ‎against the Palestinian people and its holy ‎places, the most recent of which was the ‎call of extremist Jewish organizations to ‎invade the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque... It [the Council] placed responsibility for the ‎results of these violations and provocations ‎on the occupation authorities, clarifying ‎that the Palestinian nation would not sit ‎idly by in the face of the racist attacks that ‎are harming its holy places, its land and its ‎own [people].‎ The Council also condemned the blind ‎and unjust killing in the name of Islam, ‎clarifying that Islam is a religion of mercy ‎and compassion that prohibits violence ‎and murder and opposes the sanctioning ‎of unjustified and legally unrestrained ‎‎[spilling of] blood. The Council called on ‎the Arab and Muslim nations to do their ‎utmost to defend the Palestinian holy ‎places, which are going up in flames of ‎desecration and Judaization; for they have ‎no choice but [to engage in] fervent activity ‎using all means available to them in order ‎to protect the purity of the holy places and ‎prevent the vigorous attempts to desecrate, ‎falsify and Judaize them, before it is too ‎late.
PA Mufti warns of "the dangerous consequences" of Jews visiting Temple Mount and called on Muslims "to defend" Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 3, 2015
Headline: "Jewish calls to hold celebrations marking the Purim holiday at Al-Aqsa tomorrow"
"Jewish groups acting under the umbrella of the alleged Temple organizations called for mass participation on the part of their supporters in intense invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque they are to lead tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, in order to hold traditional celebrations marking the Jewish holiday of Purim inside it...
PA Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein condemned these calls, and warned the occupation authorities of 'the dangerous consequences of this aggressive move, which is an affront to the sanctity of the Muslims' first direction of prayer and the place to which their Prophet, peace be upon Him, traveled (i.e., reference to Muhammad's Night Journey recounted in the Quran).
He called on [Muslim] worshippers from Jerusalem and the Palestinian interior (i.e., Israel), and on anyone capable of entering Jerusalem from all parts of the homeland to increase the pilgrimage to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. He called on the Arab and Islamic nation to do its utmost to defend the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem, and to assist in any way possible." From WAFA, official PA news agency

PA Mufti: Israel desecrates and attacks Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 17, 2015
“Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Holy Lands [Sheikh] Muhammad Hussein stressed that the [Al-Aqsa Mosque’s] prayer halls, domes, gates, passageways, stone benches, and auxiliary structures form an inseparable part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque... He [Sheikh Muhammad Hussein] noted that they [Israel] had already attacked the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1996, [at which] the Palestinian people came out against them in what became known as the “Tunnel Uprising” (i.e., the Western Wall tunnel riots, see below), and also in 1996, when they tried to lay the cornerstone for Solomon’s alleged temple, after which the Murabitin (i.e., those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) came out and confronted them [in clashes] which claimed [the lives] of 20 Martyrs (Shahids). Then came [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s [sic.; should be Ariel Sharon’s] attempt to defile the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] in September 2000, which led to the blessed second Intifada (i.e., the Al-Aqsa Intifada, the PA terror campaign 2000-2005) which started in the Al-Aqsa courtyards in order to defend Al-Aqsa from the attempts to desecrate it, take control over it and provoke the Muslims’ sensibilities…
[Sheikh Muhammad Hussein] added that [Israel is aware that,] in desecrating the holy places and the places of worship, it has ignited a deadly game, and that whoever perpetrates crimes against us and our holy places must bear the consequences..."

PA Mufti: Israel aspires "to build the alleged Temple
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Feb. 12, 2015
Headline: "Grand Mufti warns of the naming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque 'Temple Mount'"
"[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned about the placement of a sign by the occupation [Jerusalem] municipality near the Council Gate ( i.e., entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount), with the inscription, 'Temple Mount.' The Mufti said this step came as part of the attempts to divide the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews, extend their influence over it and establish facts on the ground inside it, like what happened at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron, in order to realize their aspirations to build the alleged Temple on the ruins of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Mufti explained that with the elections of the occupation authorities approaching, all the parties are trying to draw the votes of the extreme right by increasing the attack on the Palestinian people and its holy places. He emphasized that the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to lay hands on them, is an illusion, because the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque with its courtyards, porticoes and all [other] parts, both those above ground and those below - is the exclusive right of Muslims. He also noted that Jerusalem would retain its Islamic character and Arab identity, and that the occupation would not steal its character and identity, no matter how long it continues its crimes and its falsification of facts."

Israel announced its plan to build synagogues on Al-Aqsa Mosque as prelude to building “the alleged Temple”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 15, 2015

“PA Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned of the attempts to infringe on the ownership of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which belongs to Muslims alone and no one else. These statements were made after an extremist occupation organization declared its plans to officially register the Al-Aqsa Mosque as the property of the Israeli government in order to build Jewish synagogues on parts of it, ahead of the construction of the alleged Temple… PLO Executive Committee Member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs Ahmed Qurei ‘Abu Alaa’… said that these Jewish organizations, which are actively engaged in the field of settlement and [in sounding] the call to Judaize the Holy City, reflect the Israeli occupation government’s course of action, which aims to take control of the Holy City and harm the Al-Aqsa Mosque in particular, since the goal behind this plan is to Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque, give it a Jewish character and build the alleged Temple over it…"

PA Mufti: “The Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., Temple Mount) is for Muslims alone”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 20, 2014
“Over 55,000 [Palestinian] citizens, including 200 elderly worshippers from the Gaza Strip, held the Friday prayer in the plazas of the Al-Aqsa Mosque…
The Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, emphasized during the Friday sermon that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is for Muslims alone, and condemned the policies of targeting the Mosque that are being implemented by the occupation authorities and the extremist Jewish groups. In addition, he urged the citizens to visit it [the Mosque] more often and to do more to protect it, and held the occupation authorities responsible for the consequences of their policy against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

PA Mufti uses term “the so-called ‘coalition of Temple organizations’”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 12, 2014
“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned of the severe consequences for the entire region of the intensification of the attacks against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the increasing invasions of its premises. In addition, he noted that the most recent invasion had been carried out by a group of settlers, archeologists, and senior officials in the Israeli Security Forces and the so-called ‘coalition of Temple organizations,’ under the increased protection of the occupation authorities. The Mufti condemned the threats to carry out large-scale invasions of [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque] at the beginning of next week on false pretexts that do not fool anyone. He explained that these invasions were taking place parallel to the preparations for elections in Israel, for Al-Aqsa has apparently become a target to be profited from in the elections, with which to satisfy the Israeli public, in which extreme right-wing tendencies have increased. Hussein called on the worshippers from Jerusalem and the Palestinian interior (i.e., Israel) and all those who can come to Al-Aqsa, to increase their presence and [frequency of] their visits there, in order to defend it from the continuous and increasing attacks and violations. In addition, he emphasized that our people must stubbornly adhere to their Mosque, whatever the price and the sacrifice, until Allah inherits the land and all it contains.”

PA Mufti: Israeli officials call to invade Al-Aqsa Mosque "to build their alleged Temple"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 7, 2013
The following article was published in the context of a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site. The PA Mufti’s response was to call it an "invasion of the mosque... in order to build their alleged Temple":
Headline: “The [PA] Grand Mufti summons [Muslims] to Al-Aqsa and warns of [Jewish] calls to invade”
"The [PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories Sheikh Muhammad Hussein summoned citizens to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to fill it and defend it, especially in light of recent threats from extremist settlers and senior Israeli officials who called for an invasion of the mosque and to impose Israeli sovereignty over it in order to build their alleged Temple.
In a press release, Sheikh Hussein warned that the extremists’ actions, supported by the highest political echelons and defended by the occupation authorities, have increased noticeably of late, constituting a threat to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He added that the occupation authorities are taking advantage of the rift among Palestinians and of the Arab and Muslim engagement [elsewhere,] in order to carry out their plans. He warned that these authorities intend to grab control of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and divide it (i.e., between Jews and Muslims). Also, he called on the Arab nation and the Ummah (Islamic nation) to act effectively before it is too late, in order to save the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
