PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein
Sheikh Muhammad Hussein is PA Mufti and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the highest religious official in the Palestinian Authority. He was appointed by Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

At an event celebrating the anniversary of the founding of Fatah, Hussein presented the killing of Jews by Muslims as a religious Islamic goal. He cited the Hadith (Islamic tradition attributed to Muhammad) which states that the Hour of Resurrection will not come until Muslims fight the Jews and kill them:

Moderator at Fatah ceremony: "Our war with the descendants of the apes and pigs (i.e., Jews) is a war of religion and faith. Long Live Fatah!
[I invite you,] our honorable Sheikh."
PA Mufti, Muhammad Hussein: "47 years ago the [Fatah] revolution started. Which revolution? The modern revolution
of the Palestinian people’s history.
In fact, Palestine in its entirety is a revolution,
since [Caliph] Umar came [to conquer Jerusalem, 637 CE],
and continuing today, and until the End of Days.
The reliable Hadith (tradition attributed to Muhammad),
in the two reliable collections, Bukhari and Muslim, says:
'The Hour [of Resurrection] will not come until you fight the Jews.
The Jew will hide behind stones or trees.
Then the stones or trees will call:
"Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him."
Except the Gharqad tree [which will keep silent].'
Therefore it is no wonder that you see Gharqad [trees]
surrounding the [Israeli] settlements and colonies.
[Gharqad trees] surrounding, surrounding and surrounding.
That’s the Palestine we are talking about,
with the beginning of the Jihad and the continuation of the Jihad
with the struggle and the procession of the Martyrs."
[PA TV (Fatah), Jan. 9, 2012]

This is not the only time that the Mufti has incited to murder and hatred against Jews in the name of Islam. At a funeral ceremony for terrorists, the Mufti promoted terror against Israel, saying that the terrorists’ souls “tell us to follow in their path.” [PA TV (Fatah), May 31, 2012]

He has preached on numerous occasions that Islam is at war with Jews and Israel. In a sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 2010, he preached that the Jews are the "enemies of Allah." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 26, 2010] He has also repeatedly called on Palestinians to carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war) for Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as in the following example:

"The Mufti of Jerusalem and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, praised the residents' response to calls to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to maintain Ribat (religious conflict/war)... His honor [Hussein] appealed yesterday to the Ribat fighters in the Al-Aqsa plazas and emphasized that the practical response to the threats of the occupation… against the Al-Aqsa Mosque is to remain there, in large numbers…”
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 13, 2012]

The following section documents the PA Mufti’s hate speech against Israel, Israelis and Jews:

During the Friday sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher Muhammad Hussein… said: 'The harming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites and the desecration of their sanctity will certainly lead us to ominous results.' He added: 'Be careful, be careful of playing with fire and harming beliefs, as those that hold the beliefs will not be silent and will not accept them being harmed.' […]
The general mufti added: 'From the height of this pulpit (the Salah Al-Din pulpit) [parentheses in source], we announce to everyone – to near and far, to enemy and friend – that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is part of our belief and the belief of every Muslim in the world. We will not allow any harming of this noble belief, for which we are ready to die."

PA Religious Affairs Minister: Israel is planning “the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the establishment of their [Jews’] alleged Temple;” PA Mufti: Israel wants to “Judaize” Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 18, 2018
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is said that the occupation’s actions in Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque are a dangerous violation… the last of which being the excavations that the occupation institutions are conducting underneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque (sic., Israel does not excavate under the Temple Mount; see note below –Ed.). He added that these excavations threaten its structures, plazas, and the lives of the members of our people who visit it… Ida’is emphasized the severity of the recent developments in the Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He noted that this requires a Palestinian, Islamic, and international position appropriate to the violations, which are advancing in a systematic and planned manner up to the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the establishment of their alleged Temple… On the same matter, [PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, [and Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman] Muhammad Hussein warned that the excavations that the occupation authorities are conducting in the region of the Umayyad palaces… are disastrous. He predicted that all of the Islamic structures in the region would be undermined, and afterwards would be destroyed in order to change the holy city’s identity and completely Judaize it.”

PA Mufti: Selling land in Jerusalem and in Palestine to Israeli “infidels” is heretical, and "treason" against Allah
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), July 10, 2018
“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher Sheikh Muhammad Hussein emphasized the prohibition on facilitating the transfer of ownership of any part of Jerusalem and the land of Palestine to enemies.  This is in light of the occupation authorities’ latest aggressive attempts to take over Palestinian lands by discussing a bill that will allow Jews to acquire lands in the occupied West Bank.
The mufti said in the religious legal ruling: ‘The basis is that Palestine is kharaj (i.e., taxable land in Islam) and waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) land, and it is forbidden by religious law to sell its lands and transfer them to the enemies’ ownership, because according to religious law [Palestine] is meant for public Islamic benefit, and is not personal and private property.’ He added: ‘The transfer of ownership of territory of Islam (dar Al-Islam) to enemies is invalid, and constitutes treason against Supreme Allah and his Prophet [Muhammad], peace be upon him… Anyone who sells his land to his enemies or receives compensation for it is sinning, because anyone that sells land to enemies is facilitating the removal of Muslims from their lands, and Blessed and Supreme Allah equates him to those who fight Muslims because of their religion.’"

Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 5, 2018
“Jerusalem sank into the darkness of the Judaizing Festival of ‘Lights’ (i.e., the Jerusalem Festival of Light) that the Jerusalem Municipality organized over the past week… Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) representative Attorney Ahmed Al-Ruweidi said that ‘What is happening in Jerusalem comes as part of a plan to erase its Arab, Islamic, and Christian nature, and to give an impression that the city is Jewish. The “Judaizing” Festival of “Lights” in Jerusalem, which the occupation municipality is holding for the 10th consecutive year (s ic., 9th year), comes as part of a number of Israeli projects… [PA] Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh, and preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Muhammad Hussein considered the ‘Judaizing’ Festival of ‘Lights’ as ‘a historical, cultural, and heritage injustice [against] the sites and residents of Jerusalem, and particularly as the festival is taking place at the most important gate of the Old City.’”

PA Mutfi and Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council: “Selling lands to enemies means joining the side of the infidels… and whoever does this betrays Allah”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 29, 2018
“The Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council called on the Arab and Islamic nations to be careful not to cooperate with the deal of the century (refers to US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan, which has not been published yet –Ed.), which the American government is attempting to pass. The Fatwa Council said at its 164th session, led by [PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, that selling lands to e nemies means joining the side of the infidels and leads to excommunication from the community, and whoever does this betrays Allah, His Messenger [Islam’s Prophet Muhammad], the [Muslim] religion, and his homeland, and the Muslims must excommunicate him. The council emphasized the right of the Arabs, Muslims, and Palestinians over Jerusalem and its holy sites, and that the oppressors and their violence will not succeed in eliminate this right, as Jerusalem belongs to this nation. It also emphasized that the arrogant oppressors can do as they wish and make whatever invalid decisions they want, because the Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims will sacrifice that which is most precious of all to them in order to stand against the stubbornness of the Americans, Israelis, and those who follow them.”

PA Mufti: Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Palestine are "an Islamic waqf until Judgment Day," and forbids selling or relinquishing it to "enemies"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 13, 2018
"[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Hussein has forbidden easing the transfer of ownership of Jerusalem and the land of Palestine to enemies.
The mufti stated yesterday [April 12, 2018]: 'Palestine, that includes within it Jerusalem, is waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) land [and] it is forbidden by Shari’ah law to relinquish it or ease the transfer of ownership of it to enemies, because it is part of the Islamic public property. Granting ownership over Islamic territory or part of it to enemies is invalid and constitutes treason.'
He added: 'Whoever sells his land to his enemies or takes compensation for it sins, as in doing so he aids in the removal of Muslims from their homes. Almighty Allah connected those who remove Muslims from their homes and those who aid in doing so to those who fight against Muslims because of their religion.' He [the Mufti] also emphasized that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine, and that the American declaration regarding Jerusalem and considering it the occupation's capital is an invalid and illegitimate decision, as one who has no ownership cannot transfer something that belongs to someone else."

PA Mufti warns of “disasters of wars, anarchy, and instability” in region following US embassy move to Jerusalem, urges Palestinians and Muslims to “sacrifice all that is dear to them”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 26, 2018
“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, [and Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman] Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned against the severity of the American administration’s decision on transferring its embassy to occupied Jerusalem, which was set for Nakba Day (see notes, Ed.). He said that this testifies to the insolence that those who are biased in favor of the occupation have reached, while they continue to do an injustice to our people and its holy sites and to blatantly harm the Palestinian cause in an attempt to eliminate it. The mufti emphasized that this arbitrary behavior will have severe consequences that the American administration will bear. He explained that the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem, if it is carried out, will not be an attack on the Palestinians alone, but rather a blatant attack on the Arabs and Muslims throughout the world…and that it will not serve peace and security in the region, but rather bring upon it disasters of wars, anarchy, and instability. Sheikh Hussein added that the residents of Jerusalem and all of the Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims will not submit to this blatant attack, and will sacrifice all that is dear to them in order to confront the American stubbornness.”

Unusual statement by PA Mufti, contrary to usual demonization of Israel and Jews, the Mufti announced Israel had not stolen anything from the Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Aug. 20, 2017
Headline: "The [PA] Mufti of Jerusalem: There are no signs of theft of the contents of the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
"[PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories Muhammad Hussein emphasized that a damage assessment committees’ check of the Al-Aqsa Mosque after the attack of the settlers and occupation forces during recent events (i.e., Israeli security measures following a fatal terror attack; see note below) did not find signs of theft or destruction of the mosque's property."

The mention of “recent events” refers to Israeli security measures at the Temple Mount, including metal detectors at the entrances, following an attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israeli border police officers were murdered by 3 Israeli Arab terrorists. On July 24, 2017, Israel decided to remove the metal detectors and security cameras it had placed at the site. The PA continued to demand that all measures including inspections at the entrances be removed, and Palestinians continued to riot. On July 27, 2017, PA religious leaders declared that all Israeli measures had been removed.

PA officials blame Israel for terror attack on the Temple Mount, following Israeli “policies against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem," including "securing the settlers’ daily invasions” of the Mosque
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, July 16, 2017
“Today, Sunday [July 16, 2017], popular bodies and figures and Jerusalem institutions opposed all of the recent Israeli steps that the occupation forces are attempting to force [through] within the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the plazas of the Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), and the Old City in occupied Jerusalem (refers to how Israel stationed metal detectors at the entrance to the site in response to a terror attack on the Temple Mount on July 14, 2017 –Ed.). This came as part of a meeting that was described as significant...
In the meeting the following matters were emphasized:
1. The occupation authorities are the ones responsible for the events and actions that have taken place since last Friday (July 14, 2017), which are a product of the occupation’s policies against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem, including securing the settlers’ daily invasions of the Noble Sanctuary, continuing the settlement policy, destroying homes, and imposing exorbitant taxes on the [Arab] civilians of Jerusalem.
2. The Israeli occupation is the one responsible for transferring the confrontation that took place outside the Noble Sanctuary to within it last Friday (i.e., Israel temporarily closed the Temple Mount for two days in response to the attack), which confirms the occupation’s intent to exploit what occurred (i.e., terror attack, 2 murdered) in order to carry out its plans, whose goal is to change the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
