Fatah uses wounded baby in propaganda for Israel boycott

Nan Jacques Zilberdik  |

Using a picture of a wounded baby, Fatah is calling on Palestinians to boycott Israeli ‎products. The ad above implies the PA libel that Israel deliberately targets, hurts, and ‎even kills Palestinian children and that buying Israeli products will help finance this.‎

In the ad, Fatah labels Israel the “enemy” and urges Palestinians to “boycott Israeli ‎products”: ‎

Text on image: “Boycott your enemy’s products‎
Our choice is the land, resolve, and building”‎

Posted text: “Boycotting the Israeli products is a national duty‎
‎#Boycott_your_enemy
‎#Boycott_the_Zionist_products”‎

[Facebook page of the Fatah Movement – Nablus Branch, June 8, 2021]‎

The image shows a Star of David with red drops of blood dripping from it. In its middle ‎is a picture of a wounded infant receiving medical treatment. The Star of David is ‎integrated in a barcode that indicates Israeli products. The Fatah logo that includes a ‎grenade, crossed rifles, and the PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel ‎together with the PA areas as “Palestine” appears in the upper right corner of the ad.‎

The use of the PA libel that Israel deliberately targets Palestinian children to promote a ‎boycott of Israeli products is not new. Palestinian Media Watch exposed that the ‎PA Ministry of Education and the PA Ministry of Economy used similar symbolism in a ‎campaign in PA schools in 2017. An exhibit at a girls' school in Jenin showed bloody ‎disembodied hands and a doll with its head removed. Around them were scattered ‎Israeli products and missiles with logos of Israeli companies, among them the dairy ‎company Tnuva, teaching children that buying Israeli products facilitates murdering ‎Palestinians.‎

Interviewed about the boycott campaign, a teacher warned that buying Israeli goods ‎will finance the killing of Palestinian children:‎

Palestinian teacher Ghada Abd Al-Rahman: "The goal of our campaign is to ‎boycott Israeli products and support Palestinian products, because if we buy ‎from the occupation, that money goes to weapons and they will shoot our sons."‎

PMW has documented that the PA is actively promoting the libel to kids that Israel seeks to hurt them, telling them that "barbaric" Israel’s goal is to kill kids – “so don't walk alone!”:

Official PA TV host: "The occupation [Israel] targets children everywhere. In their schools, near their homes... We must be very careful now. We are confronting the occupiers who act in a very barbaric terrorist way. They are trying to kill people everywhere. These are barbarians, my young friends. They try to kill people for no reason, who are just walking on their land. They make various accusations against them. This is called barbarity, my friends. Be very careful all the time. All children under 18, and children under 15, when you go out, your mom or dad, should accompany you, I mean that an adult should accompany you."

A few days before the ad with the baby in the Star of David above was posted by ‎Fatah’s Nablus branch, Palestinians held a demonstration in Nablus, calling to boycott ‎Israeli goods and replacing them with Palestinian goods:‎

Official PA TV newsreader: “The national forces and factions and prominent ‎activists in the Nablus district participated in an activity to boycott the Israeli ‎products at Al-Shuhada Square and called to replace them with Palestinian ‎products.”‎

Palestinian People’s Party Political Bureau member Khaled Mansour: “In ‎order for the boycott to succeed, we – the official, popular, and factional bodies – ‎need to inculcate the boycott culture in the consciousness of every ‎Palestinian. Therefore, we need to hold campaigns to [increase] the awareness ‎more than has been done.”‎
